J. Maurice Hourihane, M.D., FRCPI
Attended the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, Ireland. He completed training in internal medicine and an interim year in neuropathology in Dublin, Ireland, prior to coming to the United States. He completed a neurology residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital, where he served as chief resident. Dr. Hourihane completed stroke fellowships at Oregon Health Science University (OHSU), and at the Buffalo General Hospital.
While an attending neurologist in Portland, Oregon, he served as the Director of the Legacy Division Oregon Stroke Center, and received several teaching awards.
Dr. Hourihane has authored numerous publications regarding stroke. He is a member of the Academy of Neurology and the American Heart Association. He has served as an investigator in multiple clinical trials related to stroke drug treatment and imaging.
His research interests are in secondary stroke prevention, imaging and treatment.
