Migraines can impact your life year round but can become especially troublesome during the holiday season. There’s parties to attend, gifts to wrap, cookies to bake, and all sorts of triggers around. While not everyone understands it’s not just a headache, you can help keep your migraines at bay this holiday season. Navigate the holidays headache free by choosing to:
• Eat, drink, and be merry – but avoid triggers. White wine & vodka are safer choices for alcoholic beverages. Drink water in between each one to stay hydrated. Choose sparkling cider or club soda if alcohol itself is a trigger. If you’re unsure whether there will be food you can eat, bring snacks or have a meal before the party.
• Keep on schedule. Any change in schedule, whether it be sleeping or eating can lead to your body reacting with a migraine.
• Make your list & check it twice. Planning ahead can save stress and let you delegate out tasks. This will alleviate the stress of last-minute panicking over missing a gift or forgetting an item for the holiday meal.
• Set aside time for yourself. Relax, unwind, and know that while you can’t please everyone, you can choose to have a wonderful holiday.
