Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PMR), also called Physiatry, is a sister specialty to Neurology. Its main mission is to improve individual’s overall function and reduce pain and suffering. Lead by Dr Leonard Kaplan, the department director, its PMR physicians provide a compliment of services that allow a DENT patient to have a truly comprehensive experience.
Spine & Joint Service
The PMR team has expertise in non operative orthopedics and interventional spine, joint and nerve pain management. They provide evaluation and treatment of painful joint and spine conditions. An in office evaluation includes a comprehensive examination, evaluation of the overall health and wellness status, and prescription of nutritional supplements, exercise, and physical therapy. They use high-resolution ultrasound to allow them to accurately diagnose and guide injections of the joints and nerves for the most accurate and effective results.
X-ray guided procedures are provided for painful spine conditions in our Orchard Park location.
Ultrasound is also used for Botox injections of more complicated cases of spasticity of upper or lower limb and neck.
Dr. Sarah Swinarski comes to DENT with expertise in rehabilitation of patients with multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's, stroke, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury and other neuromuscular disorders.
