Neuroimaging Fellowships and Training
The DENT Institute is home to one of nation’s largest fellowship programs in neuroimaging, training physicians from around the world in the use of these groundbreaking diagnostic tools. In addition, our preceptorship program provides high-level hands-on training to put you in position for better utilization and interpretation of neuro-diagnostic reporting.
A one-year Neuroimaging Fellowship is offered by DENT Neurologic Institute each year. This Fellowship is based in a large outpatient neurology practice and includes MRI of the head and spine and CT of the head. Training is also offered in neurosonology, including both Carotid Doppler and Transcranial Doppler. Emphasis is placed on the basic science of Neuroimaging, clinical interpretation of studies, and Neuroimaging research.
Upon completion of the program, the graduate will be eligible for clinical certification in MRI and Neurosonology by the American Society of Neuroimaging and eligible for the UCNS Neuroimaging Certification Pathway for Neurologists.
All applicants are required to submit a CV and three letters of recommendation for consideration of this position. Headache and Neuro-Oncology Fellowships are also available.

The DENT Neurologic Institute is an ideal training ground for neurologists who wish to learn how to read MRI and CT scans. The Institute is compromised of multi locations with a practice volume in excess of 120,000 patient encounters per year, including Neurologic and Psychiatric consults, MRI, CT, Carotid Doppler, EMG, EEG, Sleep, Infusion and Pharmacologic Therapy Management.
Lead by Laszlo Mechtler, M.D., the goal of the program is for physicians to obtain experience in executing and interpreting neurologic MRI and/or CT studies. In addition, an over-read service following the preceptorship may be arranged. Documentation for such supervised experience will be provided and may be used to sit for clinical certification examinations given by the UCNS.
Learning the physics of imaging and acquiring the skill of independently dictating reports require more extensive exposure, such as the one year DENT Neurologic Fellowship Program. However, the visiting Preceptorship can be excellent for priming or updating skills.
Preceptorships can be arranged for any length of time and would be most profitable during September through June when full conferences are taking place. However, summer rotations can be accommodated. Contact DENT directly regarding preceptorship fees and availability dates.
